"Melting Armor" - (SJ21.16)
SculptJanuary is an annual event that aims to encourage artists to sculpt more by providing them with 31 topics to complete during the month of January. It is organized by CG Boost.
There are no prizes involved, but it can make you a better sculptor.
In 2021 I completed all 31 topics. Last year I presented them here on ArtStation in weekly episodes, but I've changed my mind, I'm posting them all separately now anyway.
"Melting Armor" was the topic of SculptJanuary 2021 Day 16.
To be honest, this was the theme that appealed to me the least. I am not a hard surface enthusiast.
I've always preferred working on organic things...people, animals, gnarled tree trunks,...those are my favourites.
But I did my best to meet the demand. Starting from een icosphere in Blender...
...I squeezed a puddle of hot metal...
...with some melted remains of an armor. So, job done! :-)
No, I'm joking :-) I had to try a little harder...
This looked too monotonous!
...So I modeled a helmet...
...a very clean helmet...
...which I sculpted a bit more battered...
...I dipped it in the hot soup :-) ... okay, this was already a bit better...
The environment could also be a bit more medieval...
...red light made it really hot!...
I modeled a glove to make it even more dramatic...
"Hey! Hello there! Help me! HELP!!"
...but no one came to help the poor fellow...The terrible end of a brave young knight! ;-)
The hand seems backwards, which is possible with a melting armor, but it still bothers me.
But I didn't feel like it anymore. I decided enough was enough...
...so this was the final of Day 16.
